New Year’s Eve Pineapple Drop
You know you’re in sunny Florida when you celebrate the arrival of the new year with a Pineapple Drop Party. This local tradition kicks off at 1 p.m. in downtown Sarasota with rides, food and live music. The gala will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display over the bay. It is quite a sight to see a huge pineapple drop from the sky in preparation for a brand new year!
Highland Games and Celtic Festival
In this part of the state, there are two types of people: those of Scottish heritage and those who would like to be. Perhaps that is why the annual Highland Games and Celtic Festival is always eagerly anticipated. The event is a wonderful meld of bagpipe music, dancing, and athletic contests. This special salute to all things Scotch will be held on February 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3000 Ringling Boulevard.
